Christine Sutherland has a unique style of painting free form large format flowers on silk that is astounding. She uses transparent dyes on silk and calls her work the equivalent to the spontaneity of a jazz musician, capturing the mood of the day, trusting her experience to improvise. A new approach to tropical art, a bit reminiscent of Georgia O’Keeffe, her flowers are bright rays of happiness that capture movement and light. It’s a bold and powerful juxtaposition with harmony found in the shadow of nature. Christine was one of 10 international silk artists to exhibit her large scale artwork at the U.S. Botanic Garden, Washington, D.C. and most recently was juried into the Textile Art in the 21st Century exhibit. With a bachelors in Art, Christine is a self taught silk artist discovering the silk process in 1999 and resides in Arizona.
